Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4. We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. 5. For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection; 6. knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin; 7. for he that hath died is justified from sin. 8. But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him; 9. knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him. 10. For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 11. Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus."

Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
