1. Oh give thanks unto Jehovah, call upon his name; Make known among the peoples his doings. 2. Sing unto him, sing praises unto him; Talk ye of all his marvelous works. 3. Glory ye in his holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek Jehovah. 4. Seek ye Jehovah and his strength; Seek his face evermore. 5. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth, 6. O ye seed of Abraham his servant, Ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones. 7. He is Jehovah our God: His judgments are in all the earth. 8. He hath remembered his covenant for ever, The word which he commanded to a thousand generations, 9. The covenant which he made with Abraham, And his oath unto Isaac, 10. And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a statute, To Israel for an everlasting covenant, 11. Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance; 12. When they were but a few men in number, Yea, very few, and sojourners in it. 13. And they went about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. 14. He suffered no man to do them wrong; Yea, he reproved kings for their sakes, 15. Saying, Touch not mine anointed ones, And do my prophets no harm.

  1. And he called for a famine upon the land; He brake the whole staff of bread. 17. He sent a man before them; Joseph was sold for a servant: (Psalms 105:1-17, ASV)

Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.

The four:

  • ASV (American Standard Version, 1901). The basis of the modern critical-text English tradition.
  • WEB (World English Bible, contemporary). Public-domain revision in the ASV line, in current English.
  • KJV (King James Version, 1611). Reformation-era, Textus Receptus base.
  • YLT (Young's Literal Translation, Robert Young, 1862). Hyper-literal preservation of Hebrew and Greek grammar; useful for word-study work even where English reads stiff.
