16. And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. 17. And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it on him; 18. and they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 19. And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 20. And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his garments. And they lead him out to crucify him.

And they compel one passing by, Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross. 22. And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. (Mark 15:14-22, ASV)

Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
