ASV (ASV)

"8. For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. 9. And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

"10. So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith."

"11. See with how large letters I write unto you with mine own hand. 12. As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ." (Galatians 6:8-12, ASV)

WEB (WEB)

"8. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up."

"10. So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith."

"11. See with what large letters I write to you with my own hand. 12. As many as desire to look good in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ." (Galatians 6:8-12, WEB)

KJV (KJV)

"8. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

"10. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."

"11. Ye see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand. 12. As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ." (Galatians 6:8-12, KJV)

YLT (YLT)

"8. because he who is sowing to his own flesh, of the flesh shall reap corruption; and he who is sowing to the Spirit, of the Spirit shall reap life age-during; 9. and in the doing good we may not be faint-hearted, for at the proper time we shall reap, not desponding;"

"10. therefore, then, as we have opportunity, may we work the good to all, and especially unto those of the household of the faith."

"11. Ye see in how large letters I have written to you with my own hand; 12. as many as are willing to make a good appearance in the flesh, these constrain you to be circumcised, only that for the cross of the Christ they may not be persecuted," (Galatians 6:8-12, YLT)

Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.

The four:

  • ASV (American Standard Version, 1901). The basis of the modern critical-text English tradition.
  • WEB (World English Bible, contemporary). Public-domain revision in the ASV line, in current English.
  • KJV (King James Version, 1611). Reformation-era, Textus Receptus base.
  • YLT (Young's Literal Translation, Robert Young, 1862). Hyper-literal preservation of Hebrew and Greek grammar; useful for word-study work even where English reads stiff.
