And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do not more any such wickedness as this is in the middle of you."

"12. If you shall hear tell concerning one of your cities, which Jehovah your God gives you to live there, saying, 13. Certain base fellows are gone out from the middle of you, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which you have not known; 14. then shall you inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is worked in the middle of you, 15. you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is in it and the cattle there, with the edge of the sword. 16. And you shall gather all the plunder of it into the middle of the street there, and shall burn with fire the city, and all the plunder there every whit, unto Jehovah your God: and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again. 17. And there shall cleave nothing of the devoted thing to your hand; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show you mercy, and have compassion upon you, and multiply you, as he has sworn unto your fathers; 18. when you shall listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep all his commandments which I command you this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah your God." Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
