Amos 2.6-16

4. Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers did walk: 5. but I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6. Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, 7. they that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the same maiden, to profane my holy name: 8. and they lay themselves down beside every altar upon clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of such as have been fined. 9. Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. 10. Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite. 11. And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazirites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith Jehovah. 12. But ye gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not. 13. Behold, I will press you in your place, as a cart presseth that is full of sheaves. 14. And flight shall perish from the swift; and the strong shall not strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself; 15. neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself; neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself; 16. and he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith Jehovah. Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Judah, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have rejected Yahweh’s law, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have led them astray, after which their fathers walked; 5. But I will send a fire on Judah, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

6. Yahweh says: “For three transgressions of Israel, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they have sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; 7. They trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same maiden, to profane my holy name; 8. and they lay themselves down beside every altar on clothes taken in pledge; and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined. 9. Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. 10. Also I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite. 11. I raised up some of your sons for prophets, and some of your young men for Nazirites. Isn’t this true, you children of Israel?” says Yahweh. 12. “But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets, saying, ‘Don’t prophesy!’ 13. Behold, I will crush you in your place, as a cart crushes that is full of grain. 14. Flight will perish from the swift; and the strong won’t strengthen his force; neither shall the mighty deliver himself; 15. neither shall he stand who handles the bow; and he who is swift of foot won’t escape; neither shall he who rides the horse deliver himself; 16. and he who is courageous among the mighty will flee away naked on that day,” says Yahweh. But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

6. Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes; 7. That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane my holy name: ^{maid: or, young woman} 8. And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god. ^{the condemned: or, such as have fined, or, mulcted} 9. Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. 10. Also I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite. 11. And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD. 12. But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not. 13. Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed that is full of sheaves. ^{I am: or, I will press your place, as a cart full of sheaves presseth} 14. Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself: ^{himself: Heb. his soul, or, life} 15. Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and he that is swift of foot shall not deliver himself: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself. 16. And he that is courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith the LORD. ^{courageous: Heb. strong of his heart} (Amos 2:4-16, KJV)

4. Thus said Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, And for four, I do not reserve it, Because of their loathing the law of Jehovah, And His statutes they have not kept, And their lies do cause them to err, After which their fathers did walk, 5. And I have sent a fire against Judah, And it hath consumed palaces of Jerusalem.

6. Thus said Jehovah: For three transgressions of Israel, And for four, I do not reverse it, Because of their selling for silver the righteous, And the needy for a pair of sandals. 7. Who are panting for the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, And the way of the humble they turn aside, And a man and his father go unto the damsel, So as to pollute My holy name. 8. And on pledged garments they stretch themselves near every altar, And the wine of fined ones they drink [in] the house of their gods. 9. And I, I have destroyed the Amorite from before them, Whose height [is] as the height of cedars, And strong he [is] as the oaks, And I destroy his fruit from above, And his roots from beneath. 10. And I, I have brought you up from the land of Egypt, And cause you to go in a wilderness forty years, To possess the land of the Amorite. 11. And I raise of your sons for prophets, And of your choice ones for Nazarites, Is not this true, O sons of Israel? An affirmation of Jehovah. 12. And ye cause the Nazarites to drink wine, And on the prophets ye have laid a charge, Saying, 'Do not prophecy!' 13. Lo, I am pressing you under, As the full cart doth press for itself a sheaf. 14. And perished hath refuge from the swift, And the strong strengtheneth not his power, And the mighty delivereth not his soul. 15. And the handler of the bow standeth not, And the swift with his feet delivereth not [himself], And the rider of the horse delivereth not his soul. 16. And the courageous of heart among the mighty, Naked doth flee in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah! (Amos 2:4-16, YLT)
