Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents. 10. Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer. 11. Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come. 12. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13. There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it. 14. Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15. I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. 16. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ? 17. seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread. 18. Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar? 19. What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20. But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons. 21. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. 22. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?"

God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 14. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15. I speak as to wise men. Judge what I say. 16. The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ? 17. Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread. 18. Consider Israel according to the flesh. Don’t those who eat the sacrifices participate in the altar? 19. What am I saying then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20. But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons. 21. You can’t both drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You can’t both partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons. 22. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?"

No temptation hath taken you, except human; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear [it]. 14. Wherefore, my beloved, flee from the idolatry; 15. as to wise men I speak, judge ye what I say: 16. The cup of the blessing that we bless, is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? the bread that we break, is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ? 17. because one bread, one body, are we the many, for we all of the one bread do partake. 18. See Israel according to the flesh! are not those eating the sacrifices in the fellowship of the altar? 19. what then do I say? that an idol is anything? or that a sacrifice offered to an idol is anything?, 20. [no,] but that the things that the nations sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not wish you to come into the fellowship of the demons. 21. Ye are not able the cup of the Lord to drink, and the cup of demons; ye are not able of the table of the Lord to partake, and of the table of demons; 22. do we arouse the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than He?"

Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the most literal English translations available (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the public domain in the United States, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
