And Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 32. And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran. 12:1. Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee: 12:2. and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make they name great; and be thou a blessing: 12:3. and I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.**

Haran became the father of Lot. 28. Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees. 29. Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah. 30. Sarai was barren. She had no child. 31. Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there. 32. The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran. 12:1. Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you. 12:2. I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing. 12:3. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”**

And the days of Terah are two hundred and five years, and Terah dieth in Charan. 12:1. And Jehovah saith unto Abram, 'Go for thyself, from thy land, and from thy kindred, and from the house of thy father, unto the land which I shew thee. 12:2. And I make thee become a great nation, and bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing. 12:3. And I bless those blessing thee, and him who is disesteeming thee I curse, and blessed in thee have been all families of the ground.'**

## Why these four translations

ris3n chose ASV, WEB, KJV, and YLT for two reasons together. They are the **most literal English translations available** (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the **public domain in the United States**, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
