And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, 14. and Pathrusim, and Casluhim (whence went forth the Philistines), and Caphtorim. 15. And Canaan begat Sidon his first-born, and Heth, 16. and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite, 17. and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18. and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad. 19. And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon, as thou goest toward Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, unto Lasha. 20. These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations. 21. And unto Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born. 22. The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram. 23. And the sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash. 24. And Arpachshad begat Shelah; and Shelah begat Eber. 25. And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. 26. And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27. and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, 28. and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, 29. and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan. 30. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. 19. The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, to Gaza, as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, to Lasha. 20. These are the sons of Ham, after their families, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations. 21. Children were also born to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth. 22. The sons of Shem were: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. 23. The sons of Aram were: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. 24. Arpachshad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber. 25. To Eber were born two sons. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided. His brother’s name was Joktan. 26. Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, 27. Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, 28. Obal, Abimael, Sheba, 29. Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. 30. Their dwelling extended from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east. 31. These are the sons of Shem, by their families, according to their languages, lands, and nations. 32. They are the **most literal English translations available** (formal-equivalence: word-for-word renderings that preserve the Hebrew and Greek grammar rather than smoothing it into modern dynamic-equivalence idiom). And they are in the **public domain in the United States**, which means fair-use quotation at any length requires no publisher license. Modern licensed translations (NASB95, ESV, NIV) restrict volume of quotation under their copyright terms, so they are not used at stub-level coverage here. NASB95 appears only on hand-curated rich passage hubs under Lockman Foundation's fair-use allowance.
