Problem of Evil

Dedicated treatment of the strongest objection to Christian theism. The logical form, that God and evil are strictly incompatible, is distinguished from the evidential form, that the amount and distribution of suffering make God unlikely. Free-will and soul-making theodicies are set out alongside sceptical-theist replies, and the pastoral difference between answering the argument and answering a sufferer is kept in view.
